Within hospitals, the pre-treatment of incoming water is necessary in order to preserve the quality of the water uncontaminated. As with pre-treatment, appropriate materials and technologies must necessarily be used for the water distribution system in order to preserve the quality of the water as pristine as possible up to the points of use, especially in departments at risk, i.e. those where there are patients with low community defences, such as those in oncology or neonatology.

In this case, in fact, the water used for sanitation operations to be carried out on "critical" patients must be microbiologically controlled water in order to avoid possible infections from the water mains, unfortunately otherwise very frequent in hospitals.
